Many adoptive families seek out others whose families are similar
to their own to provide friendship, support and to exchange ideas
and information about caring for their children. It is often also
helpful for adopted children to spend time talking with other children
who have been adopted. Adoptive parent groups in Utah have met regularly
since the early 1970's. The first Culture Camp, held for children
adopted from Korea, was held in 1983. Camps are a wonderful way
for children who are adopted from countries or cultures other than
those of their adoptive parents to learn about their culture and
make friends with other adopted children. Adoption support groups
are often formed with the purpose of serving families who have adopted
a particular type of child or a child from a specific country. Other
groups are formed by adoption agencies to serve the families who
have adopted through that agency. Groups may meet as often as once
a week or as rarely as once a year.
Please check the Calendar of Events and Training Opportunities
for upcoming events sponsored by these groups. If you are aware
of a group that could be listed on this site please email Kathy
at ks@adoptex.org.
